Big Time News brings us this wonderful picture. I think since I first learned to read I've had a subscription to Sports Illustrated. I already had a letter ready to go. If Appalachian State wasn't on the cover I wouldn't hesitate cancelling my subscription. Hats off to Dexter Jackson(on SIs cover & SoCon's 200 meter sprint champion) and CoCo Hillary who MADE PLAYS in the single most unforgettable game in College Football History. Corey Lynch and Pierre Banks were ALL OVER the field making plays and ratcheting their teammates up to a different level. The most solid performance must go to Armanti Edwards and his poise in such a hostile environment. He did what he had to do to win.

The alumni blog has reported on some football scheduling challenges:

"'But the Mountaineers’ success also has worked against them in their scheduling. (associate athletics director Jay) Sutton said he nearly had a deal with a team from the I-A Mid-American Conference. But the school, which had agreed to pay Appalachian $300,000, backed out, not wanting to risk losing to a I-AA team.
“I cut the price to $200,000,” Sutton said. “They said no. I said I’d cut it more. But they finally said, `Look, you don’t get it. We don’t want to play you guys. Why would we?’ ”

I thought it would be fun to guess who it could be. Man, it's hard being champions.

Too bad at the Tad Pad for the Mountaineers. Congrats on a record breaking season. We replace DJ with Puerto Rican Power and K Brand in the frontcourt. Jeremy "Your Shot Will Not See Rim When It Leaves Your Hand As Long As I'm Defending" Clayton returns for his last season. Donte and Doug McDub will be back next year as well for the 07-08 campaign. We will have to study Stephen Curry in the offseason because he went for 30 today against the Tarpaulins in a loss, but he is the future of the conference.

Brother of the Cut is excited tonight that his other school has pulled the large upset against the Dookies. That's right the Virginia Commonwealth Rams continue on to face either Pitt or Wright State. Coach K should have called up Houston Fancher for some advice on how to handle the Rams.

Father of the Cut saw G Dub go down. The chance for the "Battle of DC" in the sweet sixteen go by the wayside.

We turn our eyes to the Cavaliers against the large dogs from Albany. My new fancy NCAA SI issue came today and they predict that this game will be the biggest upset of the tourney. Let's hope JR and Sean prove them wrong.

This time Clemson will have to deal with Minter. DJ Thompson will be out to prove the C of C game was a fluke. Appalachian State [19-6 (13-3), RPI: 55, SOS: 134] Now this is a team that needs to be taken more seriously. Huge win at Wichita State in BracketBusters provides another quality W to go along with VCU, Virginia and Vanderbilt. It's also very worth noting that the Mountaineers are now 16-3 (one non-DI win included) since Virginia transfer Donte Minter became eligible. That makes it easier to ignore the thrashings that Va Tech and Clemson put on them early in the season. They have three non-DI wins, but they also have that Puerto Rico tournament title. If the SoCon final is Davidson/App-State, that's must-watch TV for any good basketball fan -- and could see both teams make it, which would be amazing.

Davidson [22-4 (15-1), RPI: 64, SOS: 207] The Wildcats rolled again to move to 14-1 in the SoCon. They look very solid to win the league at 17-1. Not being in BracketBusters might really hurt, and they don't get another shot at App-State, the only SoCon loss, until the conference tournament. You could have a final where the two teams have a combined 53 wins or so. Amazing.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Donte Minter scored 15 of his 25 points in the final 4:37 Saturday night as Appalachian State rallied from a 17-point second-half deficit to beat Virginia Commonwealth University 73-70, ending the Rams' seven-game winning streak.
The Mountaineers (11-3) trailed 54-37 with 14:24 to play after the Rams went on a 22-8 burst to begin the second half. But Appalachian State, which shot 59 percent after halftime, finally moved in front on Minter's 3-point play with 2:18 remaining.
Minter, who transferred from Virginia, did most of his damage in close, hitting 9 of 13 from the field and all seven of his free throws in a reserve role. Jeremy Clayton added 13 points and 10 rebounds and Kellen Brand scored 10 for the Mountaineers.

I love this time of year! We got #7 Wichita State literally shocking the nation. We got the Patriots of George Mason straight taking out Izzo from the Big Ten who were in the final four last year, then you know what you do after that you just take out the defending National Champion Roy Williams coached Tar Heels from the ACC. We thought the game Bradley against Pitt and Carl Krauser would be eye popping, but outside of reading Brad Pitt on the screen and hearing the Angelina-Aniston connections that were absurd we are very Happy for the Bradley Braves. Got to have another Indian school now that the Illini are out of it. We like to see Gonzaga and Georgetown still hanging on. Thought they wouldn't make it here with us.
What our the chances of seeing a Morrison-Redick matchup? 2 more TOUGH wins to do it. The tournament is extremely exciting this year. It's awesome that George Mason and Wichita State will play because it guarantees us that one will make it to the next round to play the winner of the UDub-UConn matchup. Wow!!!! I hate to say it but Florida looks really balanced. G-town better be ready! West Virginia vs. Texas is and awesome game!!!!!!!!!!! I keep looking at the games and I just can't believe the matchups. Every single game is a must see. Period. Boston College-Villanova old Big East rivals meet again. Five words come to mind after watching the tourney over the last two years: Pittsnogle, Pittsnogle, Pittsnogle, Pittsnogle, Pittsnogle. What if we get an all ACC final Duke-BC. And by the way when Terrell Owens used to come across the middle I wanted somebody to hit him and then they went and put a Cowboys Jersey on him. Just you wait for Sean "Human Missile" Taylor to lay some wood and discreetly lay some spit in your eye like a Wu-Tang master killa. Anyway I'll Hollar later. Remember Chuck Norris doesn't sleep, he waits.

SOCON TOURNEY

Look out people. ASU avenged a one point loss in the Holmes Center to Wofford with a one point win when it counted in their first round of the SoCon tourney. The boys then slept on it and got up today and just went ahead and took out Georgia Southern the tourney's #1 seed. Thanks for coming out GSU, but you guys won't be playing basketball in the NCAA tourney. The NIT folks will pity you. We get to try to keep this momentum going into the game tomorrow against the winner of C. of Charleston vs. UT-Chattanooga. I love college hoops.

This will be an easy date to remember in regards to Boone, North Carolina simply because it is the best day in the history of the town. To win the game against Furman in our town and to continue the school record home winning streak and to earn a spot in the Division 1-AA National Championship on Friday night in Chattanooga, TN was unbelievable. The fans made their way down on the field and infiltrated the sidelines before the game was done to the chagrin of Furman's coach. The goalposts came down with surgical precision except for the chick whose clavical was broken when it slammed down on here shoulder. Then it looked like a scene from War of the Worlds as the both sets of goalposts were carried down Stadium Drive, Rivers Street and brought up King Street. The HUGE hoard of people made the roads unpassable in any kind of vehicle. It must have been a scene as out of towners eating at Our Daily Bread looked out the window to, "Look honey I didn't realize there was some kind of parade today, that's a weird goalpost float thing." Some of the crowd cut through campus to catch up with the goalposts. While at Samford Mall some dude was inspired by the moment so he took off his clothes and started running in circles buck naked. At this point your like man, "This shit is crazy". Richie Williams graduated at the 6pm ceremony walking across the stage in a black boot on his left ankle to the roar of the convocation crowd. He said that he would probably be able to play on Friday. The Cut is a little hoarse today due to screams of, "Ingle Martin is Chris Leak's backup still!" and,"Paladins are homosexual Knights!" and "Purple Pansies!" Unbelievable day!

Well, we've gone and done it now. The Mountaineers have continued a school record winning streak, got a home game in the 1AA semifinal, got a chance to face Furman(for the first time ever in the postseason) to right the three point wrong in Greenville, South Cacalak, made it on live television (ESPN2) at high noon on Saturday, caused Fall graduation to be rescheduled(congrats Dan and Big D), and made us have to tailgate starting at 8am?? I guess you add an egg and hollandaise sauce to whatever you eat to assimilate with the time of the day. The weather is supposed to be sunny, but cold. Much better than not being able to feel your toes by the fourth quarter in the rain against the Southern Illinois Salukis, which by the way is still a homosexual breed of dog. The Cut managed to make it on the ESPNU coverage, so motivation only becomes more intense for ESPN2. This is basically a Kidd Brewer coming out party and my palms are sweaty, vomit on my sweater already, but I'm calm and ready.

Quick shout out to Dexter Coakley. ASU's pride and joy, much love and sorry about the ankle dislocation and leg fracture. Cweet, Ladle, and Ladlest out a Ram linebacker, but if it had to happen at least it was at the hands of the 'Skins.

To that African American lady that said the levees were purposely blown up in New Orleans life's too short to be delusional.

It has been awhile folks out there in the blogasphere. I can tell you since our last posting the Mountaineers have been very busy. We are staring down a second round game against Southern Illinois and a chance to pound some Saluki ass. A saluki is a hound dog from the sighthound family. With this said they hunt by sight rather than smell. You are probably asking yourself what this has to do with the game on Saturday. Absolutely nothing. I was happy that the University realized that the basketball game against Davidson was at 3:30 and since everybody would be at the playoff football game at 2:30 it would be a huge conflict. The Davidson game is at 7pm now giving our fans enough time to regroup and rediscover their buzz for a basketball game versus one of our toughest opponents. Fans get in to the B-ball game free when they present their football ticket. Watch out for App basketball this year. Anyway back to ESPN and college hoops not to mention the Michael Irvin Car Search Game. peace out nizzles.

Football Thoughts

The Washington Redskins are playing surprisingly good football this season. No question about it. We could very easily be undefeated and some of our wins could have been losses. Luck has come into play on occasion as well. The "tuck rule" lost us the Denver game in my opinion. In the old days of football that would have been a fumble and a safety, period. With the convoluted rules systems and the sometimes misuse of the replay system it is enough to make a man freak the fuck out. Everything that used to be a simple game has become more complicated. I find myself explaining these things to the guy with the Vols hat after 37 busch lights. One thing is for sure we blew the Kansas City game because of turnovers. Under the direction of Spurrier during "the college years" the Skins lose by a minimum of twenty one points. Under Gibbs we lose by seven. Still a loss. No turnovers and we beat the Chiefs. I don't think it is the fact that we haven't caused enough turnovers, but the fact that we made mistakes. Causing turnovers has much more luck involved than actually goes into the prevention of our own turnovers and miscues on the field. Which brings me to my next issue: Put Lavar Arrington in the game. Use his ass until there is nothing left. Why would you keep a speciman like that on the bench? What could you possibly be waiting for? That's all I'm gonna say.

Man it is hard to get a Skins game on in Panther country. "Can you put the Redskins game on, You know the team you rooted for with your Daddy when you were growing up! Remember!??!"

The Mountaineers extended their school record fourteen straight home winning streak against Georgia Southern. GSU became the first school to get it on their second trip during the streak. Not since Wofford beat us October 26, 2002 have we gone down on the mountaintop.

It took ten years, but UVA dealt a crushing blow to the Seminoles this weekend in C-ville. I loved watching the FSU season just get flat out ruined on national television prime time. What a confidence booster after two shitty losses.

Can we go 3-0 this weekend. Will San Fran, Wofford, and UNC go down?

Spartacus 2005

Think rebel against the Dominican Republic instead of Rome.

Filming is currently going on now. The setting of course is the Dom. Rep. This photograph was taken on set down there. Pictured are the new fresh blood of young actors emerging in the D.R. They are dressed in character that is: Spartacus, Marcus, and Varinia. Spartacus sporting the upsidedown and backwards visor. Displaying his angst during the throes of the oppressive revolutionary DR gov't. Of course they incorporate these new age chariots to really bring the story full circle. Toyota is the chariot of choice. The locals say that Toyotas run for so long and can be powered also by so many means (One local claims a mixture of cheap american beer, red bull (or any taurine derivative), and urine(preferably from a male) can run one). They also claim that because of their durability they are actually looser. Sick bastards. Anyway, heading up the direction of this feature is Craig and Su Sander. Outside of busting out med school on the side for fun, filmmaking and cinematography has become their true passion and calling. Craig has put himself fully into the study of Dominican history. Su has started to help new celebrities understand the culture of the DR. Most notably for Su was her aid to a young Cincuenta Centavos come out of the NYC hoods and develop his hip hop in the DR. She has also developed a program to help gangstas overcome gunshot wounds through the hospital that currently provides her training.
Together these bright young minds will bring us what they are considering as their magna opus if you will. This production of the famous Spartacus. We will update in the coming weeks to let people know how this production comes together.

My license was expiring on September 28th. My thirtieth birthday. I go to the NCDMV office to get my new license. I go through the usual sight and sign tests. I screwed up on a couple, but he lets it slide. I like the lighthouse option. He sits me down for my picture. He gives me my new license and I'm out the door. After arriving at Lenny's cut I throw him the new license so he can examine it.

"Z, Did you notice the hair color?."

"Huh, what are you talking about Lenny?"

"It's gray!"

My old license says "BRO" for brown hair. He let me keep it.

Redskins Week 1

Here we go again. Instead this time we will jump on the subject now, not in week 10. Did Joe G. make the right call? If Ramsey returns to the game does he at least produce a touchdown? Brunell did not and had one of the worst passer ratings in the league last year. John Hall scored all of the team's points in the victory. So of course the football gods injure him to make him unavailable for Monday night's game against the Cowgirls. This game has become huge for the division race right off the bat. With a win the Skins will be 2-0 and the cowgirls 1-1. The Saints right now at their highest power of saintlitude after beating the Panthers (who ereebody says will win the whole shooting match)wins as well on Monday the Giants will be 1-1. Philly loses, 0-2. Skins 1st, going into week 3(Bye week though!)? Thank you Clinton Portis, but stop the attempts at showboating. You look stupid. You need to look mean like Stephen Davis used to. You have this sort of feminine mystique that you need to lose. We know you have the speed and moves and finesse, but you need to bring the power and the mean streak. You are the type of player that motivates everybody on the team and really gets the crowd into it. The guy replacing John Hall looks like a keeper.
